Here are some photos taken at the Udawalawa National park between the 26th & 28th January 2024. Though Udawalawa is renowned for elephant sightings, this time there were not many to be seen, as they had no need to come to the waters... [the waters had come up to the elephants (forest patches) due to the recent rains]. Yet we spotted a few, including a group of four with a baby elephant. The trip was a success as we were able to spot more that 55 bird species (of about 44 were positively identified), about 12 mammal species and 4 reptile species. There were many butterflies but only a few were positively recorded around Gonaviddagala bungalow - were we stayed.
