Bundala & Godawaya

A three-day Haritha Diyatha trip to Godawaya, on the 29th, 30th & 31st March 2013. Visited the Bundala National Park. Also visited Kalametiya wetlands, Madunagala Hot-water springs, Madunagala monastry, Maduwanwala walauwa & Panamure. Stayed at Godawaya, close-by to the ancient harbor (functioned between app. 2nd century BC to the Middle ages & the recorded oldest ship in Asia, that belongs to 200 + BC lies, 3km off-shore) & where a 7,000 year old skeleton of a pre-historic man had been found. Visited the Goda-Pawatha Raja Maha Viharaya, where a stone inscription about the ancient harbor was first found. Travelled through Ridiyagama, which is believed to have functioned as an export industrial village, (famous for Pearls, Jewellery, Steel & Ceramic-ware) associated with the Godawaya Harbor.
